Life doesn’t have to be a meaningless re-run of Ground Hog Day. It is possible to get paid for what you love to do, even if it doesn’t seem like it right now. The corporate paradigm can make us feel like we’re chasing a carrot that’s being dangled above our heads. Just a little more running, just a little more hustling, and maybe we can break free from the paycheck-to-paycheck lifestyle.
We all have dreams, aspirations–things that we love that have absolutely nothing to do with our jobs. At some point, we have to breathe. We have to take a step back, stop doing the same things over and over, and ask ourselves what we’re doing with our lives. Do you want to perform menial tasks for a corporate giant? Or, do you want to live the life we were meant to? Often people spend years dreaming for something more, and it seems like it’s always just out of reach. There is a way to break free, and many of us already know that; but only the the few know how.
There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.-Paulo Coelho
Make Your Dreams Come True
The word “manifestation” is thrown around a lot, to the point where it lost its substance. For years, it meant the process bringing something to life, something real, something that’s been dreamed up, that actually happened. Now it’s used as a way to pass off the idea that we can make anything appear out of thin air, so long as we want it badly enough. The truth, of course, is somewhere in between. You can get paid for doing what you love, and you can make your dreams come true, but there’s a science to it. And sometimes there’s a give and take between a dream and reality. What’s important is to ‘feel’ for a goal that’s meaningful and achievable for you.
Shaping Our Dreams
Dreams never fully match reality. Things can be foggy around the edges. Sometimes there’s no colour. Maybe faces are blurred… Many of us have already worked through school and up the corporate ladder. We knew what we wanted to be, but when we finally did reach our goals, our careers didn’t turn out to be what we had imagined. Some were driven solely by money, and find themselves stuck in a work life is taxing and raw. Oftentimes, what we dream about isn’t really what we want.
Getting paid to do what you love, taking a moment to understand the market. Otherwise, it could mean that you end up at a dead-end. That doesn’t mean that we should give up on our dreams. Instead, we should understand them, put them under a microscope, and ask ourselves what we ‘truly’ want out of life.
Try This To Gain A Little More Clarity
Here’s a list of questions that can ask ourselves to try and get a better understanding of how to enrich our work lives:
- What aspects of our jobs do we dislike?
- Are there aspects of our lives that are being neglected?
- What is missing from our work lives?
- What is the most important thing that we want out of a careers?
Instead of blindly following a vision as to what our career paths should look like, we should try to alter our dreams and give life to what makes us happy. These questions will allow us to seek out a pathway to earning an income doing something that we will truly love. One that brings value to our careers and our personal lives.
Getting paid to do what you love, means taking an informed step forward. Success is unimaginably close, and all we have to do is reach out and touch it. But it’s important to be smart about the way you go about things. Try to avoid rushing into an industry without knowing the ins and outs, it’s important to feel confident that you are heading in a direction that has true meaning for you. A great way to map this out is to imagine what it would be like to step into that role. To truly understand what a day in the life of our chosen field would actually be like.

Understanding Modern Business
It’s important to remember that times are changing. What was true ten, five, or even two years ago, might not be true now. Companies are constantly introducing new marketing techniques and workplace paradigms. It’s more cost effective to work from home, as opposed to opening a physical shopfront or office space. Another cost effective tool for small business is choosing free marketing via social media over expensive ad campaigns. Most small businesses are going fully or partially digital. Skilled professionals are also changing the way they work. Many are finding solace in the gig economy or freelance markets. Learning how to navigate this new terrain is just as important as understanding a new career. There is so much to learn.
