10 Easy Ways To Start A Small Business

Success With Ease

It’s easy to be put off by the idea of starting a small business. Pragmatism and the status quo tell us that we’ll be setting ourselves up to fail. That we don’t have the same resources or the customer base that large corporations have. But that doesn’t mean we can’t follow our dreams and find purpose in our work life. The world is changing. Digital technology and an anti-corporate sentiment have inspired individuals to take their future into their own hands. Exciting new opportunities are presenting themselves on a daily basis, and the public is responding to the call. They’re making a profit, and it’s possible to do so right away with little to no overhead costs.

How To Seize The Future

There are plenty of outlets and resources that we can utilize to start our own businesses right away. Really it just depends on our preferences and the industry that we choose to work in. Online platforms like Upwork and Taskrabbit act as intermediaries between contractors and potential clients. We can use them to find work, or we could turn to advertising and word of mouth, which–believe it or not–can be just as effective. It’s a personal choice, one that will affect the direction of the business, but not necessarily whether or not it succeeds.

There’s no need to be boxed into a dreary, meaningless occupation. There’s a sea of opportunities out there. Below there’s a list of 10, but it’s by no means extensive. There’s room to expand. While going through this list, think about finding something with purpose, that fills both the physical need for financial support and a higher calling.

1. Copywriter

One of the most common business ideas that people turn to is copywriting. Copywriting is a specific writing service offered to businesses. It could be advertising, blogging or web copy. Usually this type of work is obtained through either a job board, like Upwork, or through cold-pitching by contacting businesses directly. Either method can be very effective, and for many it’s led to a successful full-time career. Businesses are always working to stay ahead of the curve by building their presence online, so work will come easy.

Being a blogger might sound like a dream, but there are plenty of hosting sites like WordPress and Blogger.com that allow you to monetize your site right away. Simply share the blog around and watch as its fan base grows. It’s easy, and it doesn’t take a lot of effort to really take off.

Restaurant work is fast-paced and difficult. It requires patience, teamwork, and the ability to survive on a limited budget. Skilled chefs can easily find themselves a more relaxed environment by starting a small business as a personal chef. Personal trainers and yoga teachers change lives. They challenge others to take control of their health and live with purpose, and because they work as contractors, it’s relatively simple to get into the business. Many yoga teachers run classes by renting space in gyms, or out of their own space–rented or otherwise. Personal trainers prefer to work within their existing gym memberships. But these days there are many Yoga Teachers & Personal Trainers who work soley online, there are many way’s they generate income from their online presence, but that’s a topic for another blog post! Advertising is usually done online, or at local gyms, but be careful. Many gyms have strict guidelines about personal training. Fortunately, people are willing to pay good money to get motivated, so it’s possible to make a full-time income right away, and there’s plenty of room for growth.

5. Affiliate Marketing

Companies love to find new ways to advertise their products, and one of the ways they do that is by enrolling in affiliate marketing programs. These programs, like Amazon Associates, pay people to advertise a wide variety of products on their website. This is often paired with vlogging or blogging, and it’s a great way to earn money from a growing fanbase. This can also be done directly through sponsorships. Learning how to utilize affiliate marketing might sound difficult, but there’s help along the way. In fact, it’s not unheard of to go into the six-figure range within the first year of writing.

7. Landscaping

Nature waits for nobody, and not everyone is fit enough to give her a trim. Some people don’t have the schedule for it; others would simply prefer to leave it up to the professionals, and that’s perfectly fine. Landscaping work is always available, and it’s not just for teenagers looking for extra cash. There are big jobs for grown adults that pay well, and repeat work is common. Simply post some ads, or apply to a few, bring equipment and get started.

8. House Cleaning

Cleaning houses is a quick, easy way to jump start a small business. Begin by advertising online and through word of mouth, then bring supplies to the jobsite. Business can take off quick, and it’s not hard to build a regular clientele. Stack up multiple appointments each day, or work part-time. Either way, the money is sure to flow in.

Love to sew? Quilt? Paint? Good works of art are highly valued, and with online marketplaces like Etsy and Ebay, it’s easy to find customers who are willing to pay good money for them. This could be a side gig, or with full-time labor, it could easily become a full-time job. Starving artistry is dead.

Money can grow on trees… and bushes… and shrubs… and flower petals, and everything else that can be found in a home garden.
